Biorhythms
Scientists study cyclic patterns
that occur in various aspects of our
environment and in our bodies. For
an example of a cyclic environmental
pattern, think about the phases of
the moon. We all know that the moon
affects the earth's bodies of water.
Its gravitational pull causes the
ebb and flow of the tides.
Scientists have also discovered that
the human body, which is composed of
around 80% water, is also affected
to some degree by the moon's phases.
Some of these possible influences on
our body that are cyclic in nature
are referred to as "biorhythms".
Although biorhythm studies have not
conclusively been determined to be
scientifically valid, many people
(particularly in Eastern cultures)
have believed in their affects for
many years. The belief is that each
of us has at least three "biorhythm"
patterns of importance:
Physical: Influences our endurance
and coordination, resistance to
pain, immunity to disease, strength,
etc.;
Intellectual: Influences our ability
to learn, analytical and logical
thinking processes, decision making,
recall and memory, etc.; and
Emotional: Influences our mental
stability, sensitivity, moods and
feelings, and capacity to deal with
emotional stress.
