Heartburn
You have gone to a party and taken a
more than fair proportion of oily
and fatty food, Soon enough you feel
a burning sensation behind the
breastbone or find difficulty
swallowing, or experience a sore
throat, or chest pain or nausea. All
of these are related to the symptoms
of heartburn.
Heartburn occurs when the lower
esophageal sphincter (LES)--a muscle
between the esophagus and
stomach--relaxes, allowing the
acidic contents of the stomach to
splash back into the esophagus.
Heartburn is a burning sensation in
the upper abdomen or chest. It may
go up into the neck and mouth. The
burning sensation can last as long
as two hours and is more aggravating
after meals, while reclining, or
while bending over.
Heartburn can be caused by
emotional, mental or physical stress
also.
